The Miracle Morning

The author of this book endured some of the worst scenarios in life as a matter a fact he had no desire to live. He was involved in a terrible accident that threatened his prospect of ever walking again. $425,000 that's a lot of money right?, well Hal owed every penny of it and couldn't see a way out. The premise of the book is the following : wake-up early to construct your best self,  this notion is true for me. I read this book not with the intention of curating a brand-new morning routine but to simply indulge in a plethora of positive affirmations and quotes. (I'm a sucker for inspirational quotes lol)

One of my most precious takeaway was this precious phrase  "rear-view mirror syndrome". Meaning we limit our true potential in the present, based on the limitations of our past. I would like to share some of the greatest quotes or information of the book in an easily digestible bullet points format:

  • "Like old, worn baggage, we carry stress, fear and worry from yesterday with us into today. When presented with opportunities, we quickly check our rear-view mirror to assess our past capabilities. "No, I've never done anything like that before, I've never achieved at that level. In fact, I've failed, time and time again". When presented with adversity we go back to out trusty rear-view murrir for guidance on how to respond. Yep, just my luck. This stuff always happens to me. I'm just going to give up; That's what I've always done when things get too difficult".
  • Another very curious point was the idea of purpose. The average person takes life one day at a time and has no higher purpose beyond merely surviving. Most people just focus on getting through the day, taking the path of least resistance, and pursuing short-term, short-lived pleasure along the way, while avoiding any pain or discomfort that might cause them to grow. I'm currently reading a book called "Why has nobody told me this before?" that would contradict the above sentiment however, I understand the essence of having purpose and what that could do for our life. One cannot expect a change if changes aren't being made on a daily bases. Self-esteem is NOT created by the end goal or getting the trophy, it is created by the climb by how we keep showing up for ourselves everyday in terms of our goal. Self-esteem is the result of us following through with the promises we made to ourselves in the mirror.
  • This here made me laugh "The average person lets their emotions dictate their actions, while achievers let their commitments dictate their actions". why is this funny again? wellllll I kept picturing Shia LeBouf saying....... just do it! These words hold significant value not just on the grand things.

Overall this book was a great read it was filled and I mean filled with inspirational quotes. This arbitrary read turned out to be a mild delight. When reading these types of books my goal is not to always learn something but more so find myself in one of the pages. At times we're walking a very specific road due to responsibilities or goals (humans are considered pack animals, we're biologically adapted to live close to others) soooooo its nice to read similar sentiments on the pages of books.

bye, until the last sentence of my next book.
